Mashhad‐Second Largest City in IRAN ‐ It is located 850 kilometres (530 mi) east of Tehran ‐This northeastern city of Iran is the capital of Khorasan Razavi province. Mashhad one of the largest holy cities in the world and notably known as the resting place of the Imam Reza.Its population was 2,427,316 at the 2006 population census. historically is also known as the city of Ferdowsi, the great Persian poet of Shahnameh, which is considered to be the Persian national epic. Also the famous contemporary poet of Iran Mehdi Akhavan-Sales, and Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, the traditional Iranian singer and composer were born in the city.
